Aged Care Foundation
freemasons

In 2009 the Aged Care Foundation of Freemasons' Homes of Southern Tasmania was created to enhance the quality of life for residents of the nursing home and Bowditch hostel. Federal government funding provides the basics and any funds raised by the ACF will be used for extras. The Foundation has already purchased a large TV for residents and subsidises the cost of residents' outings. Current projects are raising funds to purchase a bus for residents' outings.

In partnership with three schools and two other nursing homes, the Foundation was successful in obtaining a grant of $25,000 from NAB as part of their Schools First project. This grant is being used to support school students recording the life stories of nursing home residents. The ACF is hopeful of obtaining a continuation grant from the same source. The residents and students who have been part of this project consider it to have been a positive experience.

Miles Flanagan chairs the seven-member Board and Christine Howard is employed for eight hours a week as the Executive Officer. For more information about the Foundation, or to become a member, please contact Christine Howard by email choward@fmhtas.com.au or call 0408 101 449.
